Hellenistic (Greek) meaning ng DISCIPLINE - TRAINING specifically, TRAINING FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
To disciple is to train, educate, teach while To discipline is to train someone by instruction and practice.
I Cor. 9:27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
PASSAGE: II Kings 16:20—20:21; II Chronicles 28:27—32:33 and Isaiah 36:1—39:8.
PUT EVERYTHING IN THEIR PROPER ORDER. Ayusin ang lahat ayon sa kanilang kahalagahan.
I. THE OPERATION: AYOS (De-cluttering) IS FOR OUR GENERATION
II Kings 18:2 Hezekiah came to the throne of Judah at the age of 25 years. He ruled with his whole heart by zealous enthusiasm for God, which spread to the people of Judah and throughout Israel. He showed great humility and wisdom and God caused him to prosper through tremendous blessings.
OPERATION: AYOS – Hezekiah chose to de-clutter the wicked ways
A. DESPITE THE WICKED FATHER…
B. DESPITE THE HUGE AND DIFFICULT CHALLENGES BEFORE HIM
· INAYOS ANG PAGSAMBA
· INAYOS ANG TEMPLE
· INAYOS ANG PAGDIRIWANG NG PASSOVER
· INAYOS ANG MGA ROLES NG MGA PRIESTS
Hezekiah began his reign with righteousness and heartfelt dedication and obedience to God. Halso showed godly attitude and concern for his people
PONDER: Hezekiah showed discipline in KNOWING HIS PRIORITY. Kahit wala siyang training for righteousness from his family, he had the fear of the Lord and he led the nation with righteousness.
REFLECTION for ACTION:
1) Ano ang pinagmulan mong clan o generation? Mabuti o hindi mabuti? Maipagmamalaki o kinahihiya? Maka-Dios o maka-sarili?
What does the Bible say about King Hezekiah?
In II Kings 18:5-7
· Nagtiwala sa Dios
· Walang maihahambing na ibang hari sa Judah
· Consistent ang pagprioritize sa Dios
· Laging sumusunod sa kautusan ng Dios
What did God do for Hezekiah?
· Sinasamahan lagi ng Dios
· Umuunlad ang buhay
· Nagtatagumpay sa mga labanin
HEZEKIAH WAS DISCIPLINED! HE TRAINED HIMSELF FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS!
II. THE OPERATION: AYOS (de-cluttering) is REWARDED
A. DESPITE THE THREATS
OPERATION:AYOS - Hezekiah seeks God to fight for the people of Israel
II Kings 19:1 – HEZEKIAH TORE HIS CLOTHES, PUT ON SACKCLOTH AND WENT TO THE TEMPLE TO PRAY
· Naging tapat sa Dios
· Nakinig sa propeta ng Dios
II Kings 19:10
EXAMPLE SA ATING TAHANAN: Kapag ang pamilya natin at ang mga members nito ay dinadagok ng kaguluhan at pang-iinsultuhan galing sa loob at galing mismo sa loob….it is really a mess! It is cluttered with disharmony and disunity that needs ORDER.
Ang mga miyembro ng pamilya ay TRAINED FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS…disciplined…not to start a quarrel, not to provoke anger, not to fan the animosity…not siding with lies…but running after truth and justice with utmost care. We should be de-cluttering fights and quarrels and focus on how to please the God of the family!
PONDER: Hezekiah showed discipline in KNOWING the VALUE OF DISCIPLINE in CALLING ON THE LORD MOST HIGH FOR HELP.
Kahit sobrang sobra na pang-iinsulto, kahit sagad-sagad na ang pangaalipusta, kahit it gave all the reasons to be messed up and make ‘sugod’ at manabunot at manakit at magdemanda at magpa Raffy Tulfo at magpost sa FB ng iringan at i-ban ang mga taong ito sa ating buhay, you do not go that way because you want order…you want to de-clutter evil thoughts and ways…you desire OPERATION: AYOS sa ating tahanan.
REFLECTION for ACTION:
Can you decide to contribute sa OPERATION: AYOS?
2) Nakakacontribute ka ba sa katuwiran dahil you have trained yourself to be righteous? Do you keep practicing it, over and over?
Are you sharing with others the joy of a disciplined and de-cluttered life?
B. WITH GOD’S ASSURANCE (tungkol kay Sennacherib – hari ng Assyria)
II Kings 19:22 -28 Through Isaiah the Prophet, God encouraged Hezekiah II Kings 19:32-34 (tungkol sa Assyria)
“They will become a mess before you! Kasi nag OPERATION: AYOS ka!”
II Kings 19:35-36 - Kasagutan ni Lord
God intervened for Hezekiah by sending an angel to destroy 185,000 Assyrians in one night. (Isang gabi lang, nasolve agad ng Dios!)
II Chron. 32:20-23 Sennacherib returned to Assyria, completely disgraced. Then one day he went into the temple of his god where some of his sons killed him.
Why did God do this? His prayer was so heartfelt, humble, and praiseworthy to God. God indeed listened to Hezekiah’s prayers and delivered His people. He was rewarded for the DISCIPLINE he showed in focusing on God and putting everything in order!
HEZEKIAH WAS DISCIPLINED! HE TRAINED HIMSELF FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS!
III. THE OPERATION: AYOS (De-cluttering) is a WARNING FOR ALL
II Kings 20:1 King Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. Prophet Isaiah sent the message from God to him: PUT YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER, BECAUSE YOU ARE GOING TO DIE, YOU WILL NOT RECOVER.
“ I am a disciplined person. I know how to prioritize God in my life. Why am I getting sick of an incurable illness?”
Upon hearing this proclamation Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to God
EXAMPLE SA ATING TAHANAN: WE ARE ALL FINITE BEINGS …WE ARE ALL BOUND TO DIE PHYSICALLY…Bawat miyembro nito..bata man o matanda. Our physical lives are not meant to live forever. Some will die soon..so soon that we might be caught with surprise, some not too soon…it’s gonna be painful! It won’t be easy to accept.
Kahit gaano tayo DISIPLINADO SA BUHAY, DISIPLINADO SA PAMILYA, TRAINED FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS AND DISCIPLESHIP, we are living in the flesh and we are bound to leave earth.
PONDER: Hezekiah STRIVED TO HEED TO GOD’S WARNING TO PUT HIS HOUSE IN ORDER. WE ARE ALL BEING WARNED TO PUT OUR HOUSE IN ORDER WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME…Ihanda ang ngayon para sa darating na henerasyon! We are talking about THEIR TRAINING FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS, the SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE!
GOD saw his tears and He would heal him and add 15 years to his life. Isaiah returned and put figs on the boil of Hezekiah’s flesh and he was healed.
Ngunit may twist pa po sa kanyang buhay: News of Hezekiah’s illness reaches Babylon
II Kings 20:12-19
· Nagpakita ng pride by displaying and exposing everything in his treasury.
IPINAGMALAKI ANG KAAYUSAN NG KANYANG KAHARIAN/TAHANAN.
Hezekiah was caught in a weak moment of pride while abundance and peace prevailed.
In II Chronicles 32:25-26 we are told that Hezekiah’s heart was lifted up, and that wrath was impending over him.
But “then Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.”
There are always consequences to each and every decision we make.
God chose not to punish Hezekiah directly because of his repentant attitude, but the consequences would be put onto the forthcoming generations.
He was not able to COMPLETELY PUT HIS HOUSE IN ORDER.
Manasseh was the successor of Hezekiah. But he didn’t follow in the good path of his father and became the most wicked king that ever ruled in Judah (II Kings 18—20; II Chronicles 29—32; Isaiah 36—39).
REFLECTION:
CONCLUSION:
· DE-CLUTTER FROM PRIDE AND INDEPENDENCE FROM GOD! LET HIM BE IN CONTROL AND CENTRAL!
· PUT OUR HOUSE IN ORDER! SET OUR LIFE IN ORDER! BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!
· ALIGN ALL THINGS WITH HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS!
· OPERATION: AYOS!
