BACKGROUND
Church is the translation of the Greek term ‘ekklesia’ - the called out ones
It is used in the New Testament to identify the community of believers in Jesus Christ. It literally means assembly, congregation, or meeting.
Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. - Matthew 16: 17 - 18
2 types of church:
- the ‘local’ church for it is defined by its geographical setting.
- the ‘universal’ church which refers to the collection of believers in Jesus Christ from all times and places.
Our first meeting with the universal church
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel’s voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are still alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. - 1 Thessalonians 4: 16 - 17

TO FOLLOW CHRIST AND TO MAKE FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST (aligned with MFGC mission)
A. TO FOLLOW CHRIST
How to follow Christ?
And he said to ALL, “If anyone would COME AFTER ME, let him DENY HIMSELF and TAKE UP HIS CROSS DAILY and follow me. - Luke 9: 23
- Deny yourself – Isuko ang ating buong buhay sa Diyos at lahat ng ating planuhin. Hindi na tayo ang “bahala” sa buhay natin kundi isusuko natin sa Panginoon at sa kagustuhan niya. Inaamin natin na hindi natin kaya kung wala ang Diyos sa buhay natin.
- Take up your cross daily - Nagpapasakop ka sa Diyos, including suffering, shame and death.
There is a reward!
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to RECEIVE A HUNDRED TIMES as much in this present age... - Mark 10: 29 - 30
THE LIFE OF THOSE WHO FOLLOW CHRIST IS CERTAINLY WORTH IT!
B. TO MAKE FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST
Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.... - Matthew 28: 18 - 20a
Why is there a command such as this?
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
Revelation 21: 8
Those who do not believe in Jesus will have eternal suffering in hell.
Let’s go back to our verse...
Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.... - Matthew 28:18 - 20a
Called the "Great Commission" - make more disciples / make followers of Christ.
… and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. - Matthew 28:20 b
Always - pasas tas hēmeras (the whole of every day)
God is with us always, so we can fulfill our calling to MAKE MORE DISCIPLES!
CONCLUSION
God’s desire is that all nations may come to know Him! Let us do our part.
“They shall bring all your brothers from all the nations as an offering to the Lord … to my holy mountain Jerusalem.”
Isaiah 66:20
Huwag natin hayaang ang mga mahal natin sa buhay, kaibigan, katrabaho at kapitbahay ay hindi makilala si Hesus sa kanilang mga buhay. Tulungan natin sila at ibahagi ang Salita ng Dios sa kanila. Huwag tayong maging makasarili!
Reflection [Magnilay-nilay]
1. Masasabi mo ba na nagagawa mo ang pag-follow kay Christ – sa pamamagitan ng pag-dedeny sa sarili? Bakit o bakit hindi?
2. Masasabi mo ba na nagagawa mo ang pag-follow kay Christ – sa pamamagitan ng pagbubuhat ng sarili nating krus? Bakit o bakit hindi?
3. Masasabi mo ba na nagagawa mo ang pag-“make followers of Christ”? Bakit o bakit hindi? Ano ang pumipigil sa iyo?
4. Ano ang dapat na epekto sa iyong pag-“make followers of Christ” kung nasa iyo “ALWAYS” ang Holy Spirit?
5. Sinong mga kapamilya at kaibigan mo ang pwede mong mabahagian ng Gospel?

1. May Bible ka na ba? Kung wala pa, siguraduhing meron ka nang sarili mong Bibliya ngayong January.
2. May nagdidisciple na ba sa iyo? Kung wala pa, magsabi sa MFGC Facebook page para ikaw ay matulungan namin.
3. May dinidisciple ka na ba? Kung wala pa, magsabi sa MFGC Facebook page para ikaw ay matulungan namin.
