I. ALL AUTHORITY OF THE SHEPHERDS OF THE LAND IS FROM GOD (LAHAT NG KAPANGYARIHAN NG MGA NAMUMUNO AY GALING SA DIOS)
Romans 13:1 (NLT) …for all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God / (MMBTAG) …sapagkat walang pamahalaang hindi mula sa Diyos, at ang Diyos ang nagtatag ng mga pamahalaang umiiral.
This would include, of course, good shepherds/leaders, wicked shepherds/leaders, and everyone in-between. God puts all leaders in place for the specific reasons Paul will describe in the following verses.
Example: King Nebuchadnezzar
B. Man’s wisdom is just foolishness to God
I Cor. 3:18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” 20 and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”
CC Reflection: 1. Can we see ourselves that we boast of our own wisdom? CAN WE ADMIT THAT WE NEED GOD’S WISDOM? |
II. GOD SETS FORTH THE STANDARDS FOR SHEPHERDS OF THE LAND (ANG DIOS ANG NAGTATAKDA NG PAMANTAYAN SA MGA NAMIMINUNO)
From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” —Luke 12:48
A. GOD GAVE THEM ‘WHO’ THEY WANTED TO TEACH A GREATER LESSON
THEY DID IT THEIR WAY! THEY GOD WHAT THEY DESERVED! WE GET WHAT WE DESERVE! Hindi ibig sabihin na kapag ang Dios ang nagtakda ng mga kapangyarihan ay hinandpick nya dahil trip lang nya or type Niya or gusto Niya or perfect will Niya. May dahilan Siya sa bawat mabuti at bawat masamang shepherds of the land. Kung paanong He raised up Babylonian, Assyrian leaders that will test the Israelites, He also set up good kings to topple them.
They chose the shepherd of the land BASED ON THEIR OWN REBELLION OR REJECTION OF GOD.
The nation Israel envied other nations who had no God as Ruler.
GOD WARNED THE LAND OF THE CONSEQUENCE OF THEIR CHOICE (I Samuel 8:4-6) – They were enslaved, exploited, taken advantage of.
B. GOD STEPPED IN TO MAKE HIS CHOICE - REPLACED WITH HIS CHOICE - DAVID - I Sam. 16
CC Reflection:
1. Are we choosing the shepherds of the land through our own foolish way? CAN WE ALLOW GOD TO STEP IN?
Ipanalangin. Magsuri. Magmuni-muni.

III. GOD HOLDS THE ALL PEOPLE (THE SHEPHERDS OF THE LAND and the PEOPLE) ACCOUNTABLE (MAGSUSULIT ANG LAHAT SA DIOS! )
A. HE IS WATCHING OVER HIS FLOCK
Ezek. 34:2-10 Woe to you! (kabaligtaran ng Blessed are those…)
WITH FORCE AND CRUELTY, YOU HAVE RULED THEM!!!!
Look at the concern of God for His people!!! He is watching how His people are being treated!
B. God is instructing the flock to submit to the shepherd of the land (Ang kawan ay tinuturuang magpasakop sa mga namiminuno)
· The disciples submit to the shepherd of the land to a certain point.
· Those who obey God above man are given courage to face the consequence of pleasing God above men’s evil rulership.
· God’s people are expected to show ‘ good works’ …become salt and light…. HINDI NAGDADAGDAG SA KABULUKAN AT SA KADILIMAN NITO!!!
Wala nang okrayan! Walang pinagtatawanan! Walang trayduran! No to political bullying!
WE ARE HURTING OUR OWN PEOPLE! WE ARE DESTROYING OUR OWN KABABAYAN! WE ARE HATING OUR OWN RACE! WE ARE HURTING OUR OWN BODY! WE ARE HURTING GOD’S CREATION! WE ARE SHAMING GOD’S NAME! DO NOT GIVE THE DEVIL A FOOTHOLD!
We are the children of the MOST HIGH GOD!!! LET US REPRESENT HIM WELL on this earth!!! WE HAVE A VISION AND A MISSION TO FULFILL! DO NOT GET SIDETRACKED!
Paul's instruction here, then, is not about blind nationalism or absolute obedience to men. Rather, it is a recognition that human government—in general—is a legitimate authority, and that Christians cannot use their faith as an excuse for civil lawlessness.
Isa. 9: 6 DO NOT FORGET THAT THE GOVERNMENT SHALL BE UPON THE SHOULDER OF THE MESSIAH – JESUS! – Isa 9:6
CC Reflection: 1. Can we be better shepherds of the land lest God brings us down? More Christian than politician? Can we not pray more for discernment rather than dissension? 2. Magparehistro para bumoto! |
Conclusion:
If you are a shepherd of the land, keep evil in check!!!
Government exists and survives because God supports it. Yet when the rulers become too evil, God will judge them and punish them. Zechariah 1:15 tells us that God tolerates some evil from nations; but when they are excessively evil, God punishes them.
Romans 13:4 gives us the purpose of government and rulers. They were appointed by God to suppress evil or keep evil in check. When they fail to do this, it is time for judgment. God has not established human government to Christianize the world. The purpose of government is to suppress evil and maintain some semblance of justice and care for the oppressed (Isaiah 1:16-17). Isaiah 1:16-17 is not a Christian statement. It describes the rebuke of the nation of Israel. Amos 5:15 is another rebuke of the nation for failing to hate evil, love good and establish justice.
It is not enough that we run for a position or choose to put someone in a position using our conscience. As Christians, God demands more from us: THAT WE PLEASE GOD IN EVERYTHING WE DO. DO WHAT IS RIGHT BEFORE GOD’S EYES! That was how the good kings in the Old Testament were described by the Bible…no more funfare.
We need good, solid, honest politicians, teachers, coaches, lawyers, parents --- shepherds of the land --- let it begin in your family!
